Mercedes-Benz 230 SL (W113):

The Mercedes-Benz SL of the W113 model series rolled off the production line for the first time in 1963 and set completely new standards in terms of technology and design. The design moved away from the classic curves that characterised classic cars of the 1950s and was much more straightforward and functional. The unique look on the high windows and thin pillars was created by the optionally available hardtop with its unusual inward curvature – the nickname Pagoda reflects this design.

The vehicle:

We are offering this beautifully maintained 230 SL Pagoda in the attractive colour combination 050-WHITE with brown interior and black soft top.

In addition to the very attractive overall condition, the wonderfully documented history of the vehicle should be emphasised in this case. The large and extensive vehicle folder with a large number of old invoices, receipts and documents provides helpful information about this.

The vehicle was delivered on 24 November 1965 in Rosenheim and initially registered there. Around five years later, in January 1971, a Mr Ostermann from Paderborn purchased the 230 SL at a price of DM 6,200. Like so many documents from that time, the original invoice between the seller and buyer is still available. Mr Ostermann kept the vehicle until 1996, a good 25 years, before passing it on. Of course, there are also extensive documents and records from the 70s, 80s and 90s in Paderborn. For example, there are also driving records for individual years, i.e. how many kilometres were covered by the vehicle in the year in question, what petrol consumption was achieved and what costs were incurred for petrol, repairs, maintenance and insurance for the Pagoda in those years. Even insurance certificates and automobile club membership certificates from this period are available in the original and form part of the extensive history.

In 1996, the vehicle passed to a close friend of the previous owner in a will (a copy of which is also available in the vehicle file) and initially remained in Paderborn before the Pagoda was sold to its next owner in Schleswig-Holstein in November 2006, a good 10 years later. The original purchase contract from this transfer of ownership still exists. All inspections and repairs in between are also documented.

From 2009, the vehicle belonged to a gentleman in Pulheim, North Rhine-Westphalia, before the Pagoda found its way to southern Germany. First to Freiburg and finally to Stuttgart, where the vehicle has now been since 2016.

So much for the vehicle’s history. We can only invite you to browse through the vehicle folder yourself during a viewing. It is truly amazing how many original documents are still available here.

Over the years, as already described, the SL has been constantly cared for, maintained and driven in an appropriate manner. Visually, the Pagoda looks very nice. The last technical work was carried out in December 2023. At the Stickel Pagoda Centre in Rutesheim, the SL was given another complete “all-round overhaul”. All wearing parts were renewed, defective or damaged components replaced and various add-on parts optimised (e.g. renewal of the power steering, removal and installation of the rear axle with renewal of the centre bearings, renewal of the fuel pump and shock absorbers and much more). A total of almost €11,000 was spent on the vehicle in this context, so that it is now perfectly maintained and ready to give its next owner the greatest pleasure.
