Mercedes-Benz 170 S Cabriolet A:
The Mercedes-Benz 170 S was a further development of the 170 V model and was significantly better equipped than its predecessor. This model, which was available as a saloon, Cabriolet A and Cabriolet B, was therefore the first Mercedes-Benz model to be designated “S”; it was often used as a management car. Only 830 vehicles of the Cabriolet A were produced between 1949 and 1951. This makes the Cabriolet A one of the rarest and most exclusive Mercedes models.

Are you looking for a really perfectly restored vehicle that is not only beautiful to look at, but is also a perfect driver? Then this 170 S Cabriolet A, completely restored in Germany, is your ideal vehicle.
Rarely has a vehicle impressed us as much in terms of looks and technology as this 170. A highlight on all levels!
Let’s first take a closer look at the history of the vehicle. According to Daimler, the Cabriolet was completed on 11 January 1950 and delivered to the customer via the Mercedes-Benz Hanover branch. This is confirmed by an official letter from DaimlerChrysler Classic from 1999, as well as the car card (management decision no. 3965) and the delivery note. Both documents certify the delivery of the car by rail from the Sindelfingen plant in January 1950. The documents also certify the factory equipment and all assembly numbers of the vehicle.
The old (replacement) vehicle registration document dates from 1966 and was issued in Stuttgart (registration number S-WM 284). The cabriolet remained in the Stuttgart area until the 1990s. It was then acquired by the previous owner, who decided to restore the vehicle, which had been neglected at the time, over a period of more than ten years with great attention to detail and without compromise. There are many original photographs from this period that document the progress of the restoration in a small, specialised workshop in Oettingen, Bavaria.
The restoration work was completed in 2011 and the vehicle was re-registered to the then owner. Since then, the cabriolet has been driven carefully for around 20,000 kilometres and always in fine weather. The technology therefore works perfectly, as great importance was always attached to ideal driving characteristics. Despite its very good visual condition, this is therefore not purely a museum or collection vehicle. Among other things, the engine was perfectly adjusted by engine specialist Herrmann Salzgitter by creating an ignition curve that was ideally customised for the engine, as well as centrifugal force and vacuum adjustment with verification certificate. Thanks to these specific measures, the engine has a particularly silky-smooth and low-consumption operation and responds perfectly to the throttle at any speed and temperature. A compression pressure test carried out by us also delivered perfect results.
The condition, colour scheme and visual appearance of the convertible are a source of great pride and pleasure. The gaps are perfect, the doors close tightly, the body is flawless and the interior and glazing are free of defects. The soft top was replaced true to the original as part of the restoration and is in perfect condition, including the associated mechanics.
